HEAR IN AFRICA
It’s never too late to hear
Hear in Africa’s outreach clinic provided 23 hearing healthcare appointments during the reporting period, including diagnostic assessments, hearing aid fittings and follow-up consultations. Several services were provided free of charge, ensuring greater accessibility for those in need.
A particularly heartwarming story was that of a 91-year-old gentleman who received his first hearing aids as a birthday gift from his daughters. Following assessment and fitting, he has also been referred for specialist support to assist with ongoing dizziness and balance issues. The combined interventions are expected to significantly improve his communication, confidence and quality of life.
LEAGUE OF FRIENDS OF THE BLIND (LOFOB)
Delivering our vision
LOFOB continues to provide specialised support to children and youth who are blind or visually impaired. During the reporting period, 51 children and young people benefited from educational support, therapeutic intervention, developmental activities and family guidance services.
The organisation also welcomed two new children into the programme and reached more than 550 community members through blindness awareness initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion and understanding. In addition, 40 professionals from education, health and community sectors received training to strengthen inclusive support practices.
LORD’S TAVERNERS SOUTH AFRICA (LTSA) AND SPORTING CHANCE DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

Schools have confirmed fixture schedules for the remainder of the term, ensuring learners continue to enjoy opportunities to compete, develop their skills and build confidence through sport.
Several exciting matches were played during the period, with strong performances across participating schools. The programme continues to create meaningful opportunities for young people with disabilities to engage, compete and thrive through cricket.
EXCELLENCE IN LIFE
Building stronger communities
Excellence in Life remains committed to supporting children, youth and community-based initiatives through sport, education and development programmes.
Participation in street cricket and touch rugby continues to grow, while homework support classes provide learners with a safe and nurturing environment to continue their studies. The organisation also maintains its support of community sport projects, including rugby and women’s football initiatives.
A highlight of the period was a collaborative Mandela Day fundraising event that raised approximately R40,000 towards the purchase and distribution of adult nappies and sanitary products for vulnerable community members. Children from the programme enjoyed a memorable day of sport and recreation, while food and blanket donations further extended the event’s impact.
THE BIG ISSUE
Empowering vendors and learners
Favourable weather and the return of schools after the winter break contributed to strong magazine sales and improved participation in vendor and educational programmes.
The Saturday School initiative continues to support learners through mathematics tuition and career guidance opportunities. During the period, students engaged with representatives from the University of the Western Cape, gaining valuable insights into tertiary education opportunities and financial support options.
The Vendor Development Programme focused on housing awareness, providing practical information and guidance to help vendors better understand available government housing opportunities and services.
