Upper Liesbeek River Garden

The recent storms have also given us guidance on changes which need to be made to areas adjacent to some of the river banks. We are well aware that some areas are within the 50-year flood line, so the river can be expected to rise to these levels, but we have learnt that growing Setaria megaphylla densely along the banks close to the river has proved to be the ideal plant to stabilise the banks. When the river rises, these plants are simply flattened by the force of the water but their roots remain firmly in the ground.
