The Upper Liesbeek River Garden (ULRG) is a treasured natural asset that requires careful management to ensure its long term sustainability. Regular water testing is a critical component of this management as it helps detect pollution, monitor water quality, prevent ecosystem damage, protect human health, and inform management decisions. The Centre for Conservation Education (CCE) in Wynberg has been in the business of environmental and heritage education for the last 32 years. The CCE opened in 1989 under the auspices of the Western Cape Education Department. The building in which the CCE operates is their Education Museum (founded in 1836) one of the longest-running institutions in the Western Cape and the oldest educational institution in Wynberg. The Center for Conservation Education (CCE) is an organisation that focuses on environmental consciousness and responsibility among teachers and learners in all schools in the Western Cape. One of the most popular lessons is The Liesbeek as a River Study. Closer to home, it is the maintenance of the benches and the gravel steps and paths which have occupied our time in October.
