Greetings dear readers from the Warwick sponsored Masi Pumas!

We are delighted to provide you with an update on the start of the 2025 season, which has kicked off well for our teams and the club.

The first League game of the 2025 Season was against Silverleaf in Kuils River on 5 April. The results and performances were very encouraging with two wins and a loss across the three teams as follows.

  • First Team won 29-0
  • Second Team lost 7-19
  • Third Team won 15-5

The second league game was another away fixture against the Durbanville team Morning Stars. They are a very strong and well supported club and we were unfortunately unable to record a win across our three teams (watch us next time!).

The results were as follows.

  • First Team lost 27-32
  • Second Team lost 7-20
  • Third Team lost 10-28

As you will see from the result, the first team game in particular was a very close and hard-fought encounter which could have gone either way. We again played away at Manenberg Rangers on Saturday 26th April, with mixed results, but in our first home fixtures of the season in May all three of our teams were victorious against Silvertree, so well-done guys!

We are pleased to report that The City of Cape Town is currently upgrading the rugby fields’ irrigation system. A very necessary and appreciated process for which we as a committee are very grateful. The fields are currently in the best condition they have been for many years.

We also have a commitment from PENBEV to replace the club fridge and we are assured this is imminent.

Readers of Sporting Spirit, if you’d like to see and read more about our club, The Masiphumelele RFC Facebook site has a very extensive coverage and photos and updates before and after each game. It is worth a look at for an insight into the energy and enthusiasm within the club environment.

To conclude, the Warwick Masi Pumas committee and coaches would like to thank Spirit for your continued support of the club and the community!
