Spirit Foundation ECD Centres, adding value to Bonnievale

Over the past six months, the Spirit Foundation Early Childhood Development Programme has continued to strengthen its connection in the Bonnievale community, building authentic partnerships, amplifying local involvement, and ensuring that the children in its care receive the strongest possible start to their educational journeys.

At the heart of this momentum is a clear mission that ensures the community’s needs are understood, addressed, and supported.

Megan Taljard, general manager at the Spirit Foundation Early Childhood Development Programme, has recently highlighted encouraging signs that this mission is gaining traction. Existing partnerships and newly formed collaborations have added significant value to the ECD ecosystems, with teachers, administrators, and operations staff discovering new ways to integrate into the entire Bonnievale community.

“Being invited to participate in events like the local business bowls league and the Absolute Motion Mountain biking challenge while working alongside others to mark Youth Day and Mandela Day are powerful affirmations that the Spirit ECD Foundation is becoming firmly embedded in our community,” Taljard proudly states.

The Spirit Foundation’s philosophy is built on collaboration, and Taljard is quick to acknowledge the role that strategic partnerships have played in the recent success of the two ECD Centres, Bonnie People and Kapteintjies. Support from organisations such as Stellenbosch Business School and Van Loveren Wines has been instrumental not only in meeting immediate needs but also in laying the groundwork for lasting impact.

“Sustainability depends on our ability to engage outwardly,” she explains. “We’re stronger when we share ideas and work together with other ECD centres and local schools.”

Internally, a focus on open communication and inclusive leadership has helped the operations team remain agile and united. “I want every member of our team to know that their voice matters. By encouraging participation and creating space for new ideas, we’re making sure our learning environments are as dynamic and responsive as possible.”

Looking ahead, the Spirit Foundation Early Childhood Development team remains committed to strengthening community engagement and forging new funding partnerships to support operational and resource needs. “Our biggest goal is to sustain and grow what we’ve built. We want every parent, teacher, and child to understand the power of a strong ECD foundation, and we want them to know that this community is backing them every step of the way.”
