Saturday the 23rd of April was a massive day in Warwick Masiphumelele Rugby Clubs history. It fielded
for the first time ever two junior teams registered in the Western Province A2 School League against Muizenberg High School.
Since the clubs’ inception, its goal was always to establish a junior program designed to offer kids of the deep south a safe and structured environment to play the game we love. Warwick Masi Pumas aim is to provide a program for children of the deep south that don’t have access to the beautiful game. We would also like to assist schools in developing their own programs.
70 boys and a handful of girls from our local community( Masiphumelele, Ocean View, Simon’s Town, Fish Hoek, Sun Valley and Noordhoek) took part in a fantastic morning of rugby at the Noordhoek Sports Fields.
The day was a massive success with all our teams walking away with victories. What was even more important was the vibe and the amazing positive atmosphere created. Pulling boys from different communities and the laughter and enjoyment experienced by all was so beautiful to see and what our country should strive to bottle and take forward. Rugby truly can change lives and communities for the good. What was truly amazing was the volunteers that made themselves available to deliver the best experience for the kids on the day!
Special thanks must go to the individuals that transported the kids to the facility from all over the peninsula and the Atlas Foundation for assisting with additional players and coaches on the day. Thank you our ref Duncan and Alex our medic for their services on the day.
