In what has grown to be an annual highlight for the Spirit Education Foundation, on Saturday 24 June, 130 SEF scholars embarked on the Annual SEF Youth Camp. This year, camp embraced 130 individuals from 12 different schools, ranging from grades 8-12.
The theme for camp this year was VOICE, which we have embodied in all mentorship activities for the year. VOICE stands for Values, Opportunities, Inclusion and Identity, Character, and Excellence.
In keeping with this theme, every activity scholars engaged with highlighted how they each have a unique voice and how to use this voice to make a positive impact in their communities and society.
As always, there was lots of laughter, singing, drumming, dancing and the odd scream when they found a spider in their beds and lots of chatter.
The highlights were learning archery, hiking to the top of a majestic waterfall (not the ankle-deep muddy parts though) and making new friends.
We returned on Tuesday 27 June with deepened friendships and as one united family.
All in all, the 2023 SEF camp was a memorable and action-packed three days and nights for everyone involved.
Thank you to the Spirit Foundation, and especially to our donors and families that made this year’s camp possible.
