Care for Wild collaborates closely with ecologists to determine when natural forage is no longer sufficient. We then carefully plan the transition to a supplemented diet, ensuring that the veldt is managed correctly and that the rhinos receive the correct nutrition. This is especially vital during early growth and development stages and for released rhinos with calves. In winter, the Fab 4 and Muddy are provided with additional feed such as teff, lucerne, and high-protein pellets to supplement their diet. The quantity of supplementary feed is carefully calculated based on the rhinos’ weight and nutritional needs. Discussions with farmers take place the previous season to ensure they can supply the amount of bales required!
