The Fab 4 and Muddy are white rhinos and unlike black rhinos, which are browsers, white rhinos are grazers. They have broad, flat lips that are surprisingly agile and strong, perfect for tearing at the short, sweet tufts of grass that they enjoy. Did you know that a white rhino needs to consume between 1-3% of their body weight per day? This means that white rhinos spend a lot of time eating! Promoting natural grazing behaviours and patterns is an important part of rhino rehabilitation and reintroduction. During the summer months, supplementary feeding is significantly reduced due to the extensive availability of natural grazing. However, as we transition into the dry season and winter, with its cold temperatures, the amount of supplementary food required is increasing.
