Care For Wild

There are still no signs of rain at Care for Wild, and the bush remains dusty, dry, and yellow. With very little natural food available for the rhinos and other wildlife, supplementary feeding continues to be their main source of nutrition during the winter months. It’s hard to imagine that this barren veld will transform into a lush green landscape in just a few months. Each day, tractors and trailers deliver food to Spirit, Jemu, Grey, Lilli, and the other rhinos and wildlife. With the bush turning a yellow-grey, the rhinos are difficult to spot in the shadows of the leafless trees. Supplementary feeding is especially important for the nursing moms like Spirit. As the days grow hotter, the rhinos spend most of their time resting in the shade, only waking later in the afternoon to wander to the river for a drink of water. Grey has recently returned to Jemu and Lilli, which might suggest that one of them is in heat, as he’s been following them closely.
